The Dutch Association of Climbing and Mountaineering (NKBV) published several articles about the famous biking route Via Alpina in their magazine Hoogtelijn (Contour Line). For this assignment, I set out together with two befriended models-for-a-day to cover the stage between the Karwendelhaus and Scharnitz, combining the ride with a hike to the summit of the Birkkarspitze. It turned into a classic mountain experience: the morning started with wet but stable conditions, yet by afternoon a dramatic thunderstorm rolled in. We had to abandon our mission, descending through heavy rain while the mountain landscape transformed around us.
Despite the challenge, we had already secured all the photos we needed, including drone shots that captured both the sporty biking adventure and the rugged hiking areas with their scenic hiking routes. The full story of this outdoor active journey along the Via Alpina was later featured in Hoogtelijn, showcasing the unique landscapes and possibilities for hiking and biking in this impressive region.
